Besides health insurance, what other type of insurance do I need at ETH Zurich?
ETH Zurich is insured against material and property damage, but with a high franchise (the amount which you must pay for damages). If instruments and equipment belonging to ETH are damaged by students through negligence (during practical courses, semester projects or thesis work, for example), ETH Zurich may make the persons involved liable for damage costs. ETH Zurich therefore highly recommends that its students take out personal liability insurance to cover any unforeseen risks. This type of insurance also covers risks outside of ETH Zurich which may incur large costs (e.g., damage to rented property or damage to third parties in accidents). Similarly recommendable is comprehensive household insurance which covers theft (e.g. of laptops, bicycles, etc.).
