Hebrew University: Exchange scholarships for excellent young ETH Zurich researchers

Overview

• the Hebrew University, Jerusalem (HUJ)

have agreed on an Exchange Scholarship Programme for Master and doctoral students. The scholarship offers one-off coverage of CHF 1,500-worth of travel expenses and a monthly scholarship of CHF 1,500 for up to three months.

Scholarship winners have the opportunity to interact with research groups in the scientific areas of their interest. Each year ETH confers 1-5 ETH-HUJ scholarships and HUJ confers the same number on HUJ students for stays at ETH Zurich.

Goal

The goal of the programme is to promote the exchange of highly qualified and  promising young scientists between ETH Zurich and HUJ.
The programme

• encourages students to experience the other country's culture
• encourages communication
• encourages interaction with research groups at the host institute: scientists, projects, structure and organisation
• lays the basis for future, longer research stays or for continuing education at the host institute financed by the visiting party

When they return to Switzerland scientists/students must prepare a short report on the results and outcome of their visit; their impressions; and input on any future improvements. This report must be submitted to the person responsible for the scholarship programme at ETH Zurich.

Eligibility of ETH Zurich Master and doctoral students

• The ETH Zurich scholarship student’s field of study must be such that at HUJ or its institutes/laboratories there will be a qualified supervisor to act as tutor to the student.
• The ETH Zurich scholarship student must be sufficiently proficient in English or Hebrew to carry out research work at HUJ.

The application should contain:

• the application material of ETH Zurich (without the study plan)
  
• your cv
• a letter of motivation indicating why you want to attend HUJ
• an outline of your current research results
• a list of publications
• a letter of support from your ETH Zurich supervisor which also outlines the exact dates of your planned research visit
• a statement of support from the HUJ supervisor

Please note that ETH Zurich needs to receive your application at least 3 months before commencement of your stay at HUJ. Please consider this when submitting your application.

• Quality of research achievements
• The overall potential benefits of establishing a contact with Israel and with HUJ in particular.
