Open to all departments.

Overview

The early EU programme SOCRATES sought to promote cooperation between EU and EWR countries in every field of education. It was initiated in 1995 and in 2000 entered its second phase. In 1 January 2007 the European Commission consolidated its various education and vocational initiatives into the life-long learning programme (2007-2013), which incorporates the ERASMUS, COMENIUS, LEONARDO DA VINCI, and GRUNDTVIG programmes.

Your rights and obligations as an Erasmus exchange student are available on the student charter.

You can find the Erasmus Policy Statement of ETH Zurich here>>.

See the department section for the specific universities with which individual ETH departments hold agreements within the Erasmus framework.

Timing and requirements

Pass grades in the first-year examinations and/or examination blocks are prerequisites for participation in exchange programmes. For this reason Erasmus programmes are generally undertaken in the third year of the Bachelor’s programme and last for one or two semesters. Please see the individual department websites for further participation requirements. A popular option is to prepare a written paper/thesis at a foreign university, within the Erasmus framework.

Exchange grants

Scholarship amounts have been set by the National Agency for 2013/14 depending on the destination of exchange. More information can be found under Student mobility EU and Student mobility Non-EU.

Please note that the scholarship will be paid out in EUR. In case that your guest university is in a Non-EU country the money will be transferred in CHF. At the end of the exchange various documents have to be handed in. In case of not handing in the documents completely, the full amount of the scholarship already paid out has to be paid back.

Students may obtain an Erasmus scholarship only once, and only during the academic year.

Please note that scholarships awarded within the framework of the "Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme" are suspended for the duration of the exchange programme.

Application

New Application deadline: 15 March for a stay abroad in the following academic year.

Exceptions: See the individual department websites. Depending on the host university, it is also possible to register at a later date.
