Student grant

A special IDEA League grant is available to promote and support the research work of students and doctoral students from the participating universities. 

This special IDEA League grant is for the promotion of student collaborations on research projects between TU Delft, ETH Zurich, RWTH Aachen and ParisTech. These grants can be used on all student levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD).
The grant is intended for short-term research stays at an IDEA League partner university. For example, doing the experimental part of a thesis would fall under this category. The grant is not intended for the grant receiver to attend courses.

Furthermore, the grant is awarded on a competitive basis.

The grant

IDEA League offers a grant between € 500 and € 3000, depending on the length of your stay. It is generally available for periods from two weeks to six months. However, preference is given to short-term periods. The grant will be awarded by the sending university. Each IDEA League university can currently offer 36 months of grants.

Subject areas

Students interested in the grant, should, together with their supervisor, find a project related to the IDEA League networks on Energy, Environment, Health, ICT or Mobility.
The contact with an academic at the chosen IDEA League partner university must be made via the student's supervisor.

Application procedure

• Student makes contact with academic at chosen partner institution via their supervisor/ETH Zurich's network representative, and receives written agreement (by email from institutional email address or post).
• Student hands in application documents (application form (PDF, 515 kB) including short research proposal, letter of recommendation from tutor or supervisor, agreement email by academic at partner institution and letter of motivation) to ETH Zurich's Student Exchange Office (address see below).
• Successful candidates will be informed 2-3 weeks after hand in of application.
• International Office arranges payment of the grant (paid into CH bank account as standard procedure) and takes care of administrative matters in collaboration with the equivalent office at the partner university. Students will remain registered at ETH Zurich, where they will also pay their tuition fees.
• After return to ETH Zurich each student has to hand in a brief report (1 page A4) on their project to the International office. International Office sends copies of report to representatives involved and publishes it on its website.
• Students participating in the grant scheme will be listed on the IDEA League website as well as on the website of ETH Zurich following the visit.

Funds for Study Associations

The IDEA League invites the students of its partner universities to apply for funding for joint projects of the study associations. Further information can be found here>>.
